Why the Packers should consider bringing back this WR

On the surface, the Green Bay Packers seem to have a stacked wide receiver room for the first time in a long time.

With that said, it's never a bad idea to bring in a veteran to help what is certainly a young group continue to learn the ropes. It's especially not a bad idea when that player knows the surroundings, and he'll be bringing two Lombardi trophies — or at the very least the experience of winning them — back with his luggage.

With the news that the Kansas City Chiefs cut wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling in an effort to save some cap room, perhaps there's an opportunity for Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst to make a shrewd move to help his team in 2024.

The Packers expect to compete for a Super Bowl in 2024 and with the development of Jordan Love and the young weapons around him on offense last season, there's no reason to expect otherwise from Green Bay.

Having a player like MVS in the wide receiver room could help that group live up to those Super Bowl expectations. After all, he's been part of the Chiefs' back-to-back run and even has a touchdown catch in the big game under his belt to prove it.

That type of experience can be invaluable if Gutekunst can bring MVS back on an inexpensive veteran deal.

It's more than just wisdom with MVS, though. Soon-to-be third-year wideout Christian Watson took over the "deep-threat" role in Green Bay when Valdes-Scantling went to Kansas City, but Watson has only played 23 games in two seasons at right now, he's a walking hamstring injury waiting to happen. He's far from a star just yet and far from a guarantee.

And yes, rookie Jayden Reed looked like a superstar in the making with 793 yards and eight touchdowns and Romeo Doubs has star power of his own with 674 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023, but neither player is fully established yet and there's always the possibility of a sophomore slump for Reed.

Having MVS on the roster could provide the Packers a great insurance policy at wideout. Throw in a few deep-ball connections between him and Love and who knows where 2024 could take Green Bay.

At the very least, it's worth considering.
